The Gentle Nudge - the #1 newsletter for first-time founders
We are back from Sierra Leone (where my wife Jennifer grew up), but still in Europe, waiting for my US visa.
Here are my top 3 impressions from our African adventure:
Food is delicious! I tried all Salone specials: foofoo, cassava leaves, cassava bread, pepper and groundnut soups. Yum! Jennifer says I’m now a proper Salone Borbor (“Salone boy”).
Sierra Leone has Tulum-level beaches minus tourists. Absolutely stunning. Water is warm like tea.
People have nothing - it’s one of the poorest countries in the world - yet, they will share everything with you.
We spent a day at Bureh Beach
The trip also gave me some much needed time to reflect on TGN and Treat. More below.
If you are new here - welcome! My name is Marcin, I was nudged by two friends in my 20s to start a company, and it changed my life. I now made it my mission to pay it forward and nudge the next generation of entrepreneurs into starting their first business.
Today we cover:
weekly update on Treat
next steps with TGN
tool of the week: beehiiv
forward to a friend: zero to one in space

Weekly Update on Treat
Treat is a DTC brand I’m building in public and sharing the lessons along the way.
Where is my 🧠
Where is my ❤️
Next steps with TGN
TGN is my main project and mission. Treat serves as a case study for us. TGN comes first, Treat comes second.
I’m going to continue working on Treat (or a pivot of Treat), but without the aggressive deadline. This will help with improving the quality of TGN.
I may or may not continue the search for the CEO - will decide soon, but without rush.
I’ve been “going alone” for months now, it’s time to “go together.”
First, I’m in a conversation with one of our community members to run The G Squad slack as a community manager. Stay tuned.
Second… I’m opening up the newsletter to our community:
➡️ Running a business already?
➡️ Want to help the next generation of founders by sharing your own lessons?
➡️ Shoot me a note to [email protected] with a 150 word update on your business. Make it useful for others. I will read every single submission and share the best ones in the newsletter.
🔧 Tool of the week: beehiiv
Many of you ask me about the tool I’m using to send these newsletters.
It’s called beehiiv (referral link) and I love it:
- they ship new features every week
- very fast and no BS support
- it’s built with newsletter creators in mind
- it has clever features helping with growth
- at the same time it has zero bloat (let’s see how it goes once they get bigger)
- fixed-fee pricing instead of revenue share
Considering a newsletter tool? I tried several - beehiiv is a clear winner.
📨 Forward this to a friend: zero to one in space
It took us 66 years to go from the first flight to landing on the Moon.
In startups we call it "going zero to one" vs. "one to one hundred".
For 200,000 years we didn't know how to fly.
Then we figured it out.
This was the hardest part, the "zero to one" part.
Then it took us only 66 years to improve it so much, we could finally visit the shiny rock flying above our ancestors' heads for thousands of years. This was the "one to one hundred" part.
🎙️ The Jennifer Kamara Podcast
My wife Jennifer talks to incredible people, many of which are entrepreneurs on a mission to improve the world we live in.
That's it for today. See you next week in your inbox!
